National Center for Civil and Human Rights
Steady in Transition
The National Center for Civil and Human Rights honors the legacy of the Civil Rights Movement and connects this remarkable chapter of American history to today's global human rights struggles.
Since 2014, more than 2 million people have visited the museum in Downtown Atlanta and experienced its collections, including the writings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and a lunch counter sit-in simulation that places visitors in the shoes of non-violent protestors in 1960.
Before opening their 28,000+ sq. ft. expansion in 2026, the Center reached out to Coxe Curry. Their search for a new chief development officer was underway, and with a solid recruiting firm in place, they felt confident they’d find a match. But hiring an executive takes time, and the daily demands of donor engagement don’t wait.
Coxe Curry placed one of our talented Interim Solutions associates as interim chief development officer to manage the Center’s day-to-day development efforts, allowing leadership to focus fully on the search for the perfect candidate.
“Coxe Curry’s interim placement was more than just someone who ‘filled in’ until a permanent hire was made; they were a critical part of sustaining our organization’s relationships and processes. We’re grateful they were able to help us during a critical time for the Center.”
Our interim placement brought a welcome sense of stability to their six months in the role, especially when the Center’s staff temporarily relocated offices as the new expansion was built. The interim officer also helped preserve institutional knowledge and maintain forward momentum as the Center transitioned between development executives, even staying a month after the role was filled to help onboard the new officer.
This engagement with the National Center for Civil & Human Rights was brief, but it’s a shining example of how Coxe Curry & Associates approaches every project: with a focus on the people, an eye for the details, and the experience to create tailor-made solutions that are as unique as the organizations we serve.
